Arguably, this is silly from your perspective.
Cause I can? Plus I don't care for people that live in denial of reality.

I honestly have no idea why so many people in this state live in La La Land. Maybe they've been indoctrinated from birth that corrupt politics and cronies are the way of life and just don't know any better.

I guess it's like someone who grows up associating Taco Bell with good Mexican food and doesn't know any better.

Things are much different in other states. If politicians prove themselves to be useless, they'll be gone at the next election. That's why the last two governors of NC have only stuck around for one term.

I have several relatives that are life-long residents of the state that have talked about moving out due to the economic outlook. Almost all of my relatives still live there. They won't leave at least not right away, due to wanting to stay close to aging parents etc. but once that situation changes, we'll see.

Both myself and my cousin that lives out of state as well have crossed it off the list of moving back and retiring to for these reasons.

I'm not talking hyperbole or utter gloom and doom and I actually like the state so I'm not some dissatisfied transplant that is grousing about it. (I spent my first 30 years in the state).

Now I wouldn't dissuade someone from moving there for a job etc. but you need to be eyes wide open about the states finances and how other states are targeting them to snipe whatever businesses from them as well. (Heck Indiana had a billboard saying as much on the border)

Don't worry- you have already discredited yourself already.

Only because of the public outcry. I wish people would be as vocal about someone like Madigan as they were about the pop tax.

I don't think that's true. Probably the vast majority of posters on here who live in Illinois have had their representative, including "I'm so sorry I tried to reform pensions" Biss, vote to keep Madigan as Speaker of the House. Make your voice heard. Let your representative know you do not approve of that.

Even my wife who has up until now refused to leave is starting to see the light. Two anecdotes that have led her to reconsider:

1) She's a manager at a customer service center in a collar suburb. They have employees working as late as 9pm to handle calls mostly from the west coast. They recently opened another call center in Phoenix to handle the later evening calls. The problem is they can't get anyone in the Phoenix center to stay past 5pm. If they try, people just quit en masse because they know they can get jobs elsewhere right away. So while the Phoenix center employees get to work conventional hours, the Illinois center is still stuck taking the evening calls because her employer knows their Illinois employees are captive by comparison.

2) She saw the poll from the Paul Simon Center at SIU showing that half of Illinois residents want to leave and she finally realized we'd be shouldering a growing share of the burden if we stuck around.

So alas, I have finally won her permission to start job hunting out of state.
