Lots of people. Even our junk rating still fetched a 5-6% interest rate. Money is cheap right now.

The affluent are also the most likely to leave when the combination of Pritzker's proposed "progressive income tax" and the cap on SALT deductions start to hit hard. The suburban luxury property market has nearly ground to a halt.

The really sad part about all of this is, and I know this comes across as blatantly partisan, you would have this situation fixed within a decade if you imported an aggressive GOP legislature and a GOP governor. The most significant problem here is the reality that the Democrat elected officials are in complete cahoots with the public sector unions whose pensions are on the line. $11,000 in pension liabilities for every person in the state! Our state government resembles the Peronists of Argentina. Most Illinoisans keep voting for these people. It's insane.

That's ridiculous. The "new governor" on the horizon is someone who has no reform agenda. His goal is to get himself a title and defer the inevitable.

Rauner added over 30% to the pension debt in just 3 years by not paying his bills. So much for the GOP (deadbeats). At least Rauner hasn’t turned us in to Kansas (yet).

He did not add over 30% to the pension debt. That b.s. came from Mendoza, a crook aligned with Pritzker and Madigan. Fact-check: Did Rauner really pour $1 billion ‘down the drain’?

Kansas' situation would be preferable to Illinois. Kansas is rated A+ by S&P. Illinois is BBB-.

That’s because they got rid of Brownback and we still have Ruiner ( and his junk bond status he’s so proud of). Ruiners plan was to bankrupt Illinois from the start, never planned on paying any bills.

wow, unreal, you actually think a politician PLANS to bankrupt the state they run????
...He tried to change things up, but the Democrats, and everyone they have paid off over the last 25 years wouldnt allow any sort of change to occur..as long as their golden meal ticket stays intact, they will never do anything to even try and change the horrific state of fiscal affairs in Illinois..

There is, and has always been, only 1 problem with IL. THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY ! And as long as they are in charge or even exist, IL. will never crawl out of this hole.

Rauner's reform agenda will never work without a Republican backed legislature. Instead, he gets to exit and take the blame that the democrats truly deserve for the state of things, and the people of Illinois will be hoodwinked into voting for Pritzker who will not only continue the trajectory of failing policies but worsen them.

Voting for a democrat in Illinois in 2018 should almost be a punishable crime. It's *that* bad.

Yes, I believe that’s what Rauner wanted to do, he certainly didn’t want to pay any bills! Bankrupt Illinois and walk away without paying contractors venders, retirees, etc.
