Default Fun Illinois question 3/25/08

What is your favorite movie that was filmed in Illinois?

There are many good flicks filmed here, but I gotta go with my childhood fave on this one: Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

It wasn't quite an award winner, but I'll go with Chain Reaction, with Keanu Reeves & Morgan Freeman, mostly because 1) the "secret underground lab" portion was filmed specifically at the building I worked at at Argonne National Laboratory, and 2) two of my co-workers were extras in the film.

Honorable mention goes to National Lampoon's Vacation - specifically, the scene shot in East St. Louis, where the Griswalds are trying to get back to I-55 to get into Missouri. Classic...

The Blues Brothers because one of the car chase scenes down Courtland Ave was filmed only two blocks from my house. We walked over and watched them hose down the streets and chatted with the Blues Brothers doubles. The real Jake and Elwood were nowhere to be found. Good childhood memory.

I like the part where they are supposedly departing from the Chicago suburbs... and there's 10,000-foot mountains in the horizon.

Wayne's World cracked me up. I knew alot of Wayne-types in high school. (My friend's car was actually in the background in one of the highway scenes. He was just driving on Hwy 90 when they were filming. He did not get paid for this. )

Default Fav IL Movie

The Hunter - Steve McQueen, LeVar Burton, probably because I was able to experience the filming at the Greater Kankakee Airport, Court House and on the Kankakee River, right in my back yard.

I love The Blues Brothers, Ferris Bueller and High Fidelity, but don't forget about The Fugitive (one of the best showcases of Chicago of any film).

Rookie of the year. Its hard to believe that 10-15 years ago the cubs had a real rough and tumble fan base.LoL I remember the "bleacher bums".
