Default Fun Illinois question 3/26/08

Please be sensitive to other peoples' opinions on this one and keep it civil.

Who is your most hated Illinois politician/official/etc ever?

Me? Tie between Ryan and Blago.

There's been so many corrupt ones over the years. Too hard to pick.

My list would start with everyone listed in the blue pages of the local phone book.

In all seriousness, run-of-the-mill corruption such as kickbacks and political favors is as common around here as the Cubs blowing ballgames. However, it takes a special kind of politician that combines such corruption with openly racist and anti-Semitic statements and still win multiple terms to Congress. My pick to click is Gus Savage.

I can't think of a good Illinois politician. All these guys are like variations on a theme.

This week its Blogo. I have been told that funeral directors who handle politician' s final arrangements have to have a large screw driver as their patrons are so crooked they have to be screwed into the ground. For that reason my choice is subject to change depending on who is charged this week.

Well, I'm older. I vote for Richard J. Daley, pharoah by the lake. Many people had great animosity toward him. He didn't change when time did and his reign really created Jim Thompson and 24 years of Republican governors in IL. You have to have real power to garner real animosity.

He talked over Walter Cronkite, may have participated in a Chicago race riot, quoted his mom to political opponents ("I have mistletoe on my coattails") and my favorite was when he and his son shouted to a US senator "F**k you! Go back to Connecticut, you Jew!" Nice.
