Default Need info on small towns in So. IL

I am getting ready to move back to So. Il. between Mt.Vernon and Marion. I have been looking at the towns Christopher, Sesser, Valier, and Herrin. I am wanting to find a small town with a good school and friendly people, and decent places to rent that are affordable. Does anybody have any info on these towns or suggestions about other towns in the area? We are moving in June and I cannot find any info.

Christopher, Sesser - You will drive 15 minutes to Benton for Wal Mart, or you can shop at a local grocer called "Bowlen's." Anything outside of groceries you will be traveling to benton. They are both towns with almost nothing in them; a couple of gas stations, fast food restaurants. Plan on driving for EVERYTHING you need.

Herrin; Not a bad town, and you are a stone's throw to Marion.

I would check out Marion. Mt. Vernon has some bad spots and is kind of known as the armpit of southern Illinois. Marion is growing in leaps and bounds, and has a ton of chain, family-owned, and franchised restaurants. It is the fastest growing town in southern Illinois, easily, and it keeps on growing! They are going to run out of space eventually. If I ever move back to southern Illinois, it will be to Marion.
