Alright, lets get our stomachs growling first thing on Monday morning.... Who makes the best Italian beef in Illinois?
I tried a beef from Augustino's over the weekend. Mmmmmmm. Not quite as good as Portillos, but pretty dang close. My vote goes to Portillos (I havent had a Johnny's beef yet though). ![]() |

I haven't been in the city of Chicago for years, except at the airport, but I've found this place worth driving a bit out of my way to get to when traveling in the area.
Sicily Pizzeria (815) 539-5560 709 13th Ave, Mendota, IL 61342 A couple of places you wouldn't think of, that have very good Chicago style Italian Beef, are Pudgy's in Omaha, NE Pudgy's Pizzeria - Background and Bertrosa's in Fargo, ND Bertrosa's Chicago Cafe There are some things even "downstaters" like about Chicago - lol ![]() |

Though many here won't know of it, my vote goes to Turasky's Meats (Turasky Meats a divison of Y-T Packing Co.) in Spfld.
In the greater Chicago area, I'll go with Garibaldi's. Last edited by breer23; 03-31-2008 at 11:33 AM. Reason: added web link |

Man, you guys are killin me! How I miss Italian Beef!! Last time I was home I had Portillo's so I'd have to go with that, but at this point, ANY Italian Beef would be good.
Steve-o, what a torturous question!! Stop with the pictures already! |

Johnny's in Elmwood Park gets my vote. (Michael's, at North and Oak Park avenues, has better french fries, tho.) Portillo's is ok, but you really must try Johnny's.

Since Bumpers, in Aurora, closed about a month ago I'll have to agree with Portillo's

Portillos... how can people vote for that soggy-chain stuff?

To be honest, I prefer the soggy-homemade stuff...which I was lucky enough to have this weekend...
