Having lived in Lake County most of my life, some places rather amuse me. When I lived in Mundelein, Libertyville looked down on us (and it is still that way, I guess). My folks always talked about Vernon Hills being not that great, there wasn't much there, now look at it! Same with Gurnee, there was hardly anything there 40+ years ago.

We used to love to go to downtown Waukegan to shop, I remember my sister buying her wedding dress. There were lots of great stores, restaurants, now it is a totally sad situation, which is why I left and moved to Wisconsin. I was 2 miles from Lake Michigan but would only go down there in daylight, never at night. Now I can walk to the lake (5 blocks) whenever I want.

In comparision to Chicago people they were hicks. Just like Romeoville or Aurora...

Not the term I prefered to use, but it was the term people used.
