Default Diversity in the Rockford area?

Hi,

My family and I are considering moving to the Rockford area. We were wondering what are the best areas and school systems for supporting diversity. Most of my family currently lives in southern Illinois where there has been a lot of hatred for anyone who is different. I was wondering what the communities around Rockford were like. Are they supportive and accepting of different ethnicities, religions, sexual orientations, and cultures? Our daughter is getting ready to start school soon and I would like her to go to school in a more tolerent atmosphere.

I would rethink that decision. The school system is not that great here, and while it is very diverse, it is not very supportive. If I were you, I would think about going to Wisconsin. They have great schools and have good neighborhoods for raising your child. Besides, the taxes are much lower than Rockford.

Default rockford diverse?

No not at all. Seems like most people on the good side of town are white and on the bad side of town black/mexican. Not much in between. Little religious and cultural diversity. Mostly blue collar with relatively few professionals.

Compared 2 Milwaukee & Chicago, Rockford is more intergrated.
It's a lot of white people and mexicans living on the westside of town in the traditionally black parts.
The southwest side of town(Cunningham st-north,Ogilby-south,S.Main-east,Levings Lake-west) is mostly mexicans & blacks but they live next door to each other in lots of spots over there. There's only a few blocks that are either all black or all mexican. Then the Italians still got a church, restaurant, & funeral home over there.
Then what's considered the southeast side(Charles st-north,Samuelson-south,Rock River-west, 20th st-east) is very mixed up. White,Black,Mexican,Asian,& African all living together block 2 block door 2 door.
The far east side and NW side might be mostly high class white people but it's a lot of minorities in those areas too.
Rockford is not a segregated town like that.
