Sycamore, Illinois
I am thinking of moving to Sycamore when I find a suitable house. I would like to find out more about the Catholic churches in the area. Any suggestions?

if you like to be welcomed into the community, then sycamore is the WRONG place. if you like to be disconnected from society and living in your own bubble, then sycamore is for you.

What the great wide-open Hell does that have to do with the guy's question? He didn't ask, "do you think I'll be welcomed to the community." He didn't ask, "Do you think I'll be disconnected from society." He asked about Catholic churches there. Do you have anything positive to say about anything, ever?
In Sycamore, there is St. Mary's Catholic Church. Their website is http://www.stmarysycamore.com/index.html (broken link)

Puhleeze, Sycamore is as hostile as a baby bird.
Id love to answer your question, but I cant. I just want to let you know that Sycamore is a friendly small town, that is experiencing growth right now, that is NOTHING like the above person mentioned. There are several churches in the area, but most are Christian. Im sure there is a Catholic church around, but I havent paid attention. You can also search the DeKalb area (next town over) as its larger and has more churches.

We just moved to Sycamore and it's a wonderful town. St. Mary's is a great church we enrolled our daughter in thier pre-school program and she just loves it. The people in Sycamore are all very nice don't pay any attention to the negative comments posted above he has a gripe of some sort. If your looking for a quiet, laid back, friendly town then Sycamore is for you. And as a bonus you can actually see stars in the sky at night!!! Good luck house hunting.

If it weren't for the high property tax, I'd move to Sycamore in a heartbeat. St. Mary's church and schools are filled with wonderful staff and people. The restaurants are great. (check out Shawn's Coffee, Taxco and Villa Verona's) You're close to the interstate to get you into Chicago (1 hour drive) or a short drive to Elburn for a train ride in. I live how it's close to so many great suburbs. I'll agree about the people who LIVE in the surrounding towns and how snooty they can be. But to visit and shop and dine is great! Make sure you check out the littlier towns around Sycamore. (yes, there are smaller ones) And good luck!

Perhaps Another Answer?
Dear Friends:
Sycamore, Illinois - - like most somewhat 'long distance' suburbs from Chicago - - is a nice town. My oldest son lives in Cortland, Illinois and that is about three miles south of Sycamore. However, I would like to talk about something else. Sycamore - - like any town west of Chicago - - is a domino effect town. There are many people fleeing from Chicago because certain areas of Chicago (city) have serious criminal problems. So those fleeing out of Chicago move to closer towns like La Grange. Then the La Grange people of long standing move out to Owego or some such town. That is the Domino effect. In Sycamore, those types of migrants are initially afraid of people - - until they get to know them through backyard parties. Then most people become more relaxed and enjoy their neighbors better. One observes this all over the Chicago Land communities. So please do not become discouraged over Sycamore. Yes, the property taxes are expensive - - perhaps a minimum around $5K per year per house and up.
Best Regards,
Carter Glass

I don't know anything about the Catholic Schools out here in Sycamore. But I will tell you how lovely living in Sycamore is. We moved here from Lake Geneva and also St. Charles before that and I haven't come across not one person who had a stuffy attitude. Now I can't say that for Saint Charles or Lake Geneva. I feel comfortable if I wanted to take a stroll in town late in the evening. The restaurant are great, especially TAXCO. I think taxes are high no matter where you go. I also would like to say we don't have children in school as they are all grown and were raised in St. Charles.
Hope you find a home in Sycamore.

Funny you mention Taxco.... not too bad of a place. Just ate there about 3-4 weeks ago when I was in town visiting a friend. They also put a Portillo's in Sycamore, too.
