It's a tiny little place. My local paper covers that area, I don't recall it ever being in the news for anything. I assume that's a good thing.

Just wondering -- why Thawville of all places? I can't imagine there's some sort of great job opportunity waiting for you there. Of all the tiny little towns in Illinois, what is it about Thawville (and Watseka for that matter) that has you curious?

I'm waiting for their attention to turn to Piper City. Real estate prices as dirt cheap there. Thawville, Watseka.... I assume they're looking for a small quiet place out of the way of things.

Yeah but there are dozens if not hundreds of such towns in Illinois. I'm just curious as to why (s)he has picked Thawville in particular. If I had to choose in that particular area, I think I'd go with Gibson City, mostly so that I could walk to Bayern Stube.

I try to direct people there when I can. Real estate is reasonable in Gibson, there's steady employment to be had locally, plus anything you need is right at hand, shopping, a hospital, the Harvest Moon Drive-In, etc. BTW, the local radio station at Gibson has an online stream at http://www.wgcyradio.com , for anyone wanting to hear how different this part of Illinois is from the rest of the country. My favorite time to listen is Friday evening, they devote that time to mid-20th century jazz and pop music.

Gee, I almost forgot about this! WGCY is having a special Christmas show tonight at 6 Central. Anyone wanting to hear how we do up Christmas here in East Central Illinois should go to their online listen site at http://www.wgcyradio.com then for a listen. You won't forget it!

And some really sharp old houses. And of course, the Bayern Stube. Nice touch of refinement. Have I mentioned that I like that place?

I tried listening. I really did. But the quality of the stream is so abysmal I just couldn't put up with it any more.

The radio broadcast is having some technical issues, I live 15 miles from there and it's just barely coming in on the radio. I assume the problems are affecting the streamcast.
