Hello all,
My sister has recently been looking into a job in Rockford, and wondered what areas to enroll her children in. We have heard highly about Auburn High School, but also heard that the surrounding area is very dangerous, even though the school is excellent. Should I be concerned for her, or no? If so, what are some other good high schools in the area? Thanks!

It seems like a good school. But it is very dangerous, and the other schools are far better. Avoid Auburn.

I grew up in Rockford but haven't lived there in about 15 years. My family still lives there. I went to Boylan which is a private Catholic school that played in the NIC-9 (now NIC-10) against all the Rockford area public schools.

In general, Rockford public schools are not good. But I think home life and parental involvement has way more to do with a child's success than the school. Auburn has a great gifted program. The surrounding area is pretty rough though. In general you do not want to live west of the Rock River. Housing in Rockford is so cheap so you can live anywhere so I recommend living near Hononegah, Belvidere or Guilford high schools.

I am aware of the reputations Rockford schools have, such as Auburn. Not to mention that I have BEEN to Auburn for Scholastic Bowl competitions. Get your facts straight.
