My family is relocating to Peoria. I have read that Dunlap is a good place to raise a family. I need to find a good school for my 1st grader who will be placed in the gifted and talented program next year if we were to stay at the current school. Any suggestions ?

It's hard to beat the Dunlap school district, one of the highest rated school districts in the state of Illinois (I believe in the top 40 of 860 school districts.) Schools in Dunlap Central Unified School District 323. Schooldigger.com.
There are also good things to be said about the schools in Morton, IL . Not quite as high on the ratings as Dunlap, but still impressive (much better than Peoria schools). I know more about Dunlap than Morton, having spent my all my school years there. I'd say Dunlap is a great place to raise a family....not too far from the shopping and entertainment perks of Peoria while still (at least for now) keeping some what of a small town feel. |

There is quite a bit of info that can be obtained about Dunlap from this site, that members have been kind enough to produce. I currently reside in the area and can answer any specifics that you might need for you and your family. Understand though that because Dunlap is so convienent to everything, its popularity tends to overshadow other places within the metro area. With each seperate town you tend to get trade-offs between what they can offer. For instance, Dunlap has amazing schools, but has a very small downtown with little to do, unlike Washington or Normal. Peoria on the other hand has iffy schools thoughout (some very good, some horrible), but has a very nice downtown/riverfront district. These types of things are common in all towns in the area. You just have to pick and choose what is important for you at the present time. Feel free to DM with any topic you may need info for.

Peoria has a Montessori and a Advanced Placement school for gifted children. One of the nicer areas not far from these schools is a large subdivision called Rolling Acres. It is bounded by Glen, Univerisity, War Memorial and Northmoor.
