Good Day Everyone,
I am planning to vacation in northwest part of illinois. Orginally from iowa and presently living out in Seattle, WA area north of Seattle actually. What is the best small cities for high tech desktop support or even helpdesk person with 8 years of experince and A+ and 2 year degree, Seattle is really getting to expensive to live here.

I don't think Chicago region is really going to match the quality of life that you can have in Seattle -- scene is MUCH younger out there than here.

You might find employment, though there is no great shortage of frontline desktop support/helpdesk, 8 years experience is good, 2 yr degree, not so much. Indivudal offices/firms are going to be more concerned with a solid demonstration of technical competance in specific areas -- Apple integrations is hot, various virtualization technologies are hot, security is a big area of concern too.

Whether you are looking in the 'burbs from Lake Co to Hoffman Estates & Schaumburg to Oak Brook & Naperville or even the city itself the lifestyle will not have the youth focus of Seattle...

More family oriented, older, corporate than Seattle. Jobs are most plentiful in financial services, drug/healthcare, and traditional corporate world like law and accounting...

Expectation of someone with more than 5 yr experience might be that they have some industry focus, but that is more important to law firms and trading firms that are known for having demanding lawyers and high pressure hedge-fund type environment...
