History of Carlock,IL????
I'm researching my ancestry and my family tree includes the Carlocks of Carlock,IL.. Is there anywhere in Carlock to do research such as a Records Department? I'm specifically looking for marriage, birth, death and adoption documents. The period I'm interested in is the late 1800's to early 1900's. My great grandfather was Marion Pomeroy Carlock(father Madison P Carlock) and I'm trying to find documents regarding his union with Dorothy Obenchain(sp?).

Your search should start in Bloomington. McLean County has the records you need. Other material will be found at the historical society (in the old courthouse building downtown) or at the Bloomington Public Library (called by the locals the Withers Library, a name it used to use).

BTW, there is an 1879 History of McLean County that should cover most of what you're interested in.

History of the Carlock Family by Marion Pomeroy Carlock
I have in my possession a book written my Marion Pomeroy Carlock in 1929- History of the Carlock Family and Adventures of Pioneer Americans. It is the most fasinating history of our family. It was handed down to me by my grandmother, Mayme Lee (Bottom) Seton- daughter of Chloe Buren (Coker) Bottom-Brooks, p.12, decended from Elizabeth (Carlock) Fancher, daughter of Isaac Carlock of Missouri.

From which of WFL's wives are you? We've probably already corresponded. You must have read my postings in Ancestry.com to know about Dorothy Mabel Obenchain. You can also reach me through Genforum on the Obenchain page. If you are going to go to bloomington, maybe you can find out about her (presumably art) teaching job there. St Louis is another possibility. You know she hated WFL because he reminded her of MPC's spawn and run personality. Maybe you can also find out about the two older girls, Elizabeth Carlock Lockwood especially, also Virginia but we know a fair amount about the latter. Maybe you can also nail down whether DMO was Jessie or not.

magicaldog,
You probably did not notice, but you are responding to a post from January 2007. It was the only time magicalcat posted to this forum.

Would like to communicate with Micheall (Seaton) Gray
Hello,
I "googled" the Carlock name looking for whatever I could find...and
this site came up and your 2 year old comments on the "Carlock" book of
geneology. I am also a decendent of the Carlock's...thru Job Carlock..
and Hanscrist...etc. I am trying to locate/purchase a copy of this
book. Interested in selling yours? Know anyone who might be?
My E mail is gardenbumm@charter.net...
I've been on Ancestry.com for a couple of months now...and have totally
seen all the info ...book and all..but would really like to have one...especially for the photos. I do understand that reprints are available. Hope you see this ....MR

HI,
My name is Madelyn Reynolds. I, too, am a descedent of the Carlock family. My maternal
gr. mother's maiden name was Carlock. I am most interested in locating and purchasing
one of the books published in LA by M. P. Carlock in 1929 of the family geneology.
Do you have any interest in selling your copy? Do you know any other family members
that might wish to sell theirs? Thank you for your time in advance. Please email me at
gardenbumm@charter.net..as I my not get back to this site.

There is a small library in Carlock, it's right on 150. By the way, I'm fairly certain the town is named after Abraham Carlock.
