sandwalk is on a distinguished road
^ Not to mention that the counties in the Rockford MSA (Winnebago & Boone) border DeKalb County (Boone borders McHenry as well), which are in the Chicago MSA.

I drove 50 minutes one way for 10 years commuting from Clearwater to Tampa and it didn't kill me. Believe it or not for the first 3 I didn't even have a car with a/c. That was no fun but I survived.

Most people in Tampa Bay commute at least 30 minutes, but many, many people commute 1- 1 1/2 hours. Housing is very expensive for one so many people live in Pasco and Hernando counties because they simply can't afford to live closer. In Clearwater, for example, a decent house, even now, starts at 300K. Something nice in a real good neighborhood will be 500K on up. And keep in mind Florida wages are some of the lowest in the country.

This is one of the things that cracks me up about this Rockford trash talking. Anyone who think a 30-40 commute is unreasonable clearly has never lived in a large city. And a guy in Rockford who makes 75K/yr probably has a nicer house, or at least as nice a house, as a guy making 150K/yr in Tampa. But very few make 150K a year down there.

I used to hire a lot of sales guys. At one time I employed 150-160 sales reps. When these guys would come from out of state I was very upfront with them in saying that unless they were all-stars and could generate 6 figure incomes they should probably reconsider moving to Florida. That Florida lifestyle everyone see's on t.v. costs a ton. And even though I can afford to live it I just got to the point that I started hating having to fight traffic and people everytime I left the house.

And believe me, once you live in FLorida for a few years you will begin to dread the summer heat. Heat that is so intense I don't have words to describe it. Right now I'm sitting on my deck, overlooking some fields in total peace and quite, no humidty, a slight breeze...man this is heaven for me. I even went to the gas station this morning and just drove right up to a pump with no wait. Haven't done that for a while.

Worse than Gary, Indiana. Go down on Broadway in Gary. Try Flint, MI. Memphis, TN. Jackson, MS. East St.Louis, IL. Elpaso, TX, Brownsville, TX. Many cities in New Jersey.

I don't know, Rockford has some tough areas, but it surly isn't the worst.
