Moving in Decatur instead of Oak Lawn in 2 weeks
I accepted an assignment at St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur and would start by the end of this month. I would like to know which part of the town is safe? I read a lot of bad feedback about this little historical town.
My company recommend the TIMBER COVE Apartment. Does anyone know anything about the said place? One of the reviews I've read said that there were break in's in the building and even in the parking lot of the property!!
Unfortunately, I don't have the time to personally hunt for a place there because I'm presently staying in Cleveland, Ohio. I am a single woman and would be at work most of the time. I want a very secured and private place that is close to work, farthest I would want to live is maybe 30 minutes away.
Please help, I need to make a decision no later than Wednesday next week (July16).

Decatur is not a suburb of Chicago. You might do better to post in the general Illinois forum.

I asked my DH about this since he grew up there and his family is still there. He said years ago that complex was OK, nothing great but OK. The areas on the north side, near the mall, are the best and then the "West End" neighborhood is nice. some of the areas in the middle of town are not the best. You may want to check into Mt.Zion, it is much nicer than Decatur and the two blend together geographically. Good luck to you. St. Mary's is in a nice part of town and is a very pretty hospital.

Timber Cove is fine. It's very close to STM also.
There are two complexes on Mound Road - the one all the way at the west end of it is fine. Anyone know what that is called??? The East Mound one looks shady to me.
MTZ - I am sure there are nice ones but I just can't think of any!!!
Forsyth- Cardwell Co. on Water St. is good.
If I were you I would do a month-to-month and look around.

living in decatur atm, im telling you there is no nice places in decatur any longer. there are some that are nicer than others.. but the ghetto is pretty much all of decatur now. i would say mt.zion/forsyth/warrensburg/oreana/argenta are your best bets... and also really close. all within 15-20min of the hospital.
