Let me see if I understand you correctly. You and your future wife are looking to rent an apartment West of Chicago. You've been looking around Naperville, Wheaton and St Charles - or you'd like to live in that area.
Some things to know: The farther you live from Chicago the rent is cheaper. Old neighborhoods with families that live there a long time are safer and the rent is cheaper. For instance, I lived in Berwyn years ago in an Italian neighbohood. It was a nice place to live. but, it might not be so nice today. Snall towns usually have cheaper rent. I lived in Marselles for a while, too, but that would probably be too far from work. If you do not mind driving a little further you might like Plano and Sandwich; |

Hi Rene,
My family and I divide our time between Frankfurt, Germany and Chicago. I think you'll like Chicago, but might I recommend the city itself rather than the 'burbs to get a better taste of the city? There are some lovely parts of the city that make commuting into the city or the suburbs possible. The CTA system is quite good, and Metra as well. Well-connected neighborhoods are Ravenswood, Edison Park, and Norwood Park/Oriole Park. There is also the nearby suburb of Oak Park that has great restaurants and shops in the downtown area. Just throwing out something else to think about. Warm Regards, Valya |
