Default relocation ideas

Just got laid off the end of June, and after finding out yesterday that my area (Rockford) has the highest unemployment rate in IL, I think I need to relocate to find a decent job. I am ideally looking for an Electronics Technician position or something related. If you know of any good areas for such work, or know of anyone hiring, please let me know. I will consider all areas, and I am looking for something in the range of $ 13 - $17 per hour.

You might try craigslist. I found this posting in the Springfield area under manufacturing jobs (there are LOTS of categories):

Assemblers needed to assist a leading developer and manufacturer of fiber optics, electrical connectors, and cable assemblies.
The basic job requirements will be:
• Use diagrams and simple blueprints to assemble cables and components.
• Solder connectors.
• Perform quality control inspections.
• Package and label product for shipment.
Qualified applicants should possess some level of prior assembly experience within the electronic manufacturing industry.

This is a long-term position with opportunity for growth.
This position offers a very strong competitive compensation package with excellent benefits which includes medical, dental, vision among others. For immediate consideration, contact Thomas (thomasdsullivanjr@gmail.com) to schedule an interview. Provide salary requirement and forward resume if available.

I might sound mean, but im pretty sure that houses in CA are not that much cheaper the 2-3 years ago. You could by a mansion in Illinois for the price of a small ranch home in California

On to the OP, I know there are many electrical oriented jobs across Illinois proper. Try Springfield and Peoria, maybe also include Bloomington/normal and Decatur as well.

Jericho is telling the truth...yes, prices have dropped here in So CA, but houses are still up in the $200-$450 K...they haven't dropped all that much. I did find a fixer-upper in Perris, CA (I don't think you would want to live there though) for $114K. Even a home in a 55+ community is selling for over $300K. These are all in the Inland Empire...it's HOT, conjested, the freeways are backed up no matter where you go it seems. California is NOT the paridise people think it is, I'm sorry to say. To the OP...Good luck finding another job!

Well that looks like a walk in the park compared to Rockford, have to look into that.

Why not just come to Chicagoland? You could try places like Siemens, All Points, Dukane, etc, etc.
