Exclamation Clinton county bound, kiss it Vegas!!

My son and I and his family are thinking about moving out to Illinois from Las Vegas, Nv. VEGAS.... Too much crime, too many rules in all the subdivisions, too many FAKE people. Also, the fact that spanish isn't our first language appears to be becoming a problem, can hardly order anything a fastfood place and have them understand what it is you are trying to say. Schools suck, cars are stolen one every 25 minutes-so insurance is $$$$$. And don't even start about the cost of houses. So we are looking in the area of New Baden, Aviston, Albers, Breese, Germantown, generally Clinton county as I have family there that says the property taxes are a lot lower than other nearby counties. Any suggestions or thoughts on the area??? Job situation???? Will the winters really kill us?? Is the humidity something that can be gotten used to?? Does anyone have any idea where to get info or what the dog laws are concerning having a kennel? Not a back yard breeder, maybe 4-6 dogs. The downside (to alot of people) is that it would be pits. My son wants to raise them and already has a foundation male. If anyone could respond, it would be greatly appreciated. P.S. Gonna be 105 this weekend and yuck, that sucks , too.

Default Hey Shiba-Lover

I moved from Henderson, Nevada last June, but not to Illinois, I moved to the Springfield, Missouri area. I knew NO ONE here, but had researched the area and come to take a look during the prior two years. I actually loved living in Henderson and found none of the negatives you experienced. I lived in Southfork at Eastern/St. Rose Pkwy and LOVED my neighborhood, my house, and my view of Las Vegas from my bedroom upstairs. However, my home had become so bloatedly overvalued, my job had sent me to the Philippines (which I hated), and the area where I lived, which used to border open desert, was entirely encircled by housing projects and development (Silverado Ranch, Anthem, Seven Hills, etc.). It got so crowded and my commute was to Summerlin, so that part made it unpleasant for me. I cashed out at the height of the bubble when there were only 8000 houses on the MLS. Now there are over 30,000 homes (condos and single family homes) for sale and prices are declining and nothing is moving. I moved to the Springfield area, found a custom built brick home on 4.3 acres north of town, paid cash, and find this area absolutely beautiful, friendly, cheap cheap cheap to live in , and unspoiled. My electric bills through May average so far $28, I paid up to $300 during the summer to cool my home in Henderson. The weather is fickle. December and February were arctic, zero to about 18F, but January was warm and it warmed up in March and April too. The tornado threat can be daunting, but that's the case in Illinois too. The thunderstorms here are epic, but the houses are much better constructed. Mine was built in 93 and the walls are one foot thick with real wood planks used in the attic across the rafters, floorboards, and walls behind the brick. Houses here are CHEAP! Springfield is about 160,000 people, pretty Midwestern feel to it, lots of jobs, banks, call centers, and all the major stores. Taxes are very low here too. Whereever you go, I don't blame you for leaving Las Vegas. Though I personally loved it there, I wouldn't trade Missouri for Vegas ever again! Good luck!

Hello shiba-lover,

Just stumbled upon this forum and saw your post and about flipped. Anyway, I am from Albers IL, one of the towns that you listed. Just moved back down here from Chicago a month ago. I am originally from Albers. The surrounding towns in CC are under a construction craze. Many people have moved out here in the past 2 years and more keep on coming. Scott Air Force base is looking to bring 1000 more jobs to the base so we are going to get even bigger. What kind of employment are you looking for? I am not sure about the kenel but I can look into it for you. Also, if you move out here...you have to become a die hard Cardinals fan!!!

Arrow Thanks!!

Thanks for replies!!! On the first one, I guess that coming from the relatively "smalltown" feel of SLC, UT 33 yrs ago and seeing the changes here in So NV, I really am just ready for a change. No offense meant to anyone who really loves it here, I'm just over it. I have been told that I should move no farther east than New Baden, but I think that the people are not small-minded there and that, you get treated as good as you treat your neighbors.
I work in the banking field currently, my soon-to-be daughter in law is in retail, and my son does manufacturing supervisor or parts counter work. He can even do travel ticketing, but isn't too fond of it anymore.
His dad (my x!) keeps telling him that it is "tornado alley" there and that he will NOT BE SAFE! He wants him to move to Utah, way too high of taxes there. And winters much above St. George are colder than So IL I think.
I appreciate any help we can get on the dog thing. Called Carlyle for County laws and they say it has to be zoned "AG" Agricultural to have a kennel. Not sure how that works, cuz I've only found one property way over by Carlyle that had that zoning. And it was manufactured housing on the land. Really want brick or regular, but I know that Manf. can be nice inside. Just not as safe in a storm.
Thanks for replies again and info on things.
Sigining off....its 1 a.m. and still almost a 100 degrees outside

You still thinking about moving to Clinton County? If so, send me a PM. I live in Carlyle. Great town, but I am moving to Kansas City and my house is up for sale.
