March first should do. I was going to suggest April (due to the weather). Please beware that during March here the weather is still crappy. You'll probably see a snowstorm or two, and you'll want to get some winter gear for the kiddies. BTW, with those links I sent you, I noticed the prevailing rate for a house/apartment rental is $400. Out here they usually want a security deposit equal to one month's rent- plus you actually want to see the place before signing a lease. The city and chamber of commerce links may prove useful for any questions you may have about the place. Small towns are relatively informal about the way things get done, if you ring up the mayor or head of the chamber of commerce they'll actually be friendly and answer any specific questions you may need answered. Plus if you ask, I'm sure they'll send a packet of material. You may find it handy to downplay the fact that you spouse is getting out of the prison. Serving prison time still carries a stigma here. Not that I think he'll have trouble finding work though.

Of course, in that last one I meant "your spouse". I really need to read these things before I send them out....

Yes, indeed I am a sir. I'm pretty sure you can get to Hillsboro all right, once you get to Litchfield (which is on I-55 and surely has bus service) Hillsboro is a ten mile trip. I'm assuming Litchfield is probably large enough to have a taxi service. Getting a car in Hillsboro may be easier than you think. If you ask around, especially if you ask a pastor at one of the churches for help (yes, I know, the church will start on fire once you set foot on sacred ground) they may find someone with one they aren't using that might be given you. Such things do happen in Illinois. Actually, I think walking will do for transport for a while in Hillsboro, until you can get things settled in. BTW, life in Downstate Illinois may be somewhat of a culture shock for you after life in Los Angeles. It's kind of a cross between living in Mayberry, Hooterville and Bedford Falls (if you don't understand those cultural references, I'm willing to explain them). I think you'll do fine here.

How cool is that! Wow my county (not disclosed sorry) only offers this same transit service to elderly and disabled.
When calling about this transportation (800 number) you might want to ask about county public housing. Usually each county administers the public housing .... the ones where I live are brand new and look like two story townhouses. So that might help you out locating housing.
Maybe your problems are solved. I hope so! Good Luck

I think the church idea is good. Don't feel that way.
