Default Decatur / Forsyth

I may be relocating to the area for the "big yellow" company - I was there this weekend and my impression was somewhat nice shopping area / business
near the Forsyth / Decatur border.

What is there for rental's apartment or houses in a "good" area ?

I really didn't have time to explore the city so lets hear the good and the bad.

What about social life / activties ?

It might help to know where you're moving from to have some basis of comparison. If you're moving from some little two-horse dirtball town in, say, Oklahoma, Decatur might look like Rome in comparison. But then, Decatur in turn makes Cleveland look like Rome. Springfield is nearby and offers a little more in terms of culture and quality of life than Decatur. Frankly, both have seen better days.

Decatur's north side (near the mall) is much nicer than other parts of the city. You may want to check out Mt. Zion which is where many Decatur-ites are moving to. Mt. Zion is cleaner, has better schools and may offer better housing options. Depending on where you may work in Decatur, you may want to check out Bloomington. I know several people who work in Decatur but live in Bloomington and are quite happy. Rental apartments are not plentiful in Decatur. In this market I'm sure you could get a house to rent more easily! I personally would pick Mt. Zion or Bloomington over Decatur.

You also might want to look at smaller communities such as Maroa, Warrensburg, Monticello, Clinton, and Macon.

There is not much in apartments but I have seen plenty of houses to rent in Decatur. I used to rent (went to millikin) There is a lot of growth in Forsyth so I would guess there might be some apartment buildings going up there.
