Visiting family next summer and need...
... a lake to take the family too that rents house boats! I was born and raised in Bowling Green,KY but lived in Louisville, Nashville, and Atlanta most of my teenage and adult life so I need a boat to be out in the wilderness... just not my thing to sleep in tents. I am living in Chicago right now but will be visiting next summer to take the family out. Any thoughts on a place such as this that is downstate close to the KY border? Thanks in advance guys!

What about Land Between The Lakes? Not too far from downstate IL.

Thanks Steve-O, I have considered land between the lakes. Any other recommendations? We would go into Tennessee if we find a place. We aren't the camping type of people so we don't have that much experience with the different places around.

There is always Lake Shabbona. Ive never been there myself, but Ive heard its a pretty decent sized lake.

Dale Hollow Lake is on the TN/KY border. I know you wanted something closer.
As Steve-o said land between the lakes ie. Lake Barkley and Kentucky lake. Kentucky lake is beautiful! I've only been there once, but the view was great! Another one I forgot to mention was Rend Lake.

Good recommendation, Josh! There is also the Chain O' Lakes in northern IL as well.
