polo, illinois
Would like to know about Polo, IL. I am originally from the LaSalle-Peru area and currenty reside in Florida for the past 10 years. My family is looking to relocate back, but we were looking farther North. My husband is wanting to get back to hunting and how are the schools? My daughter is 12 and son is 10. We homeschool now, but would like to get the children back in school if they are safe enough. I am a registered nurse and would be willing to drive up to 60 miles away for work. How is the housing. We would like at least 3 acres. Also taxes for the area. Sorry for so many questions. We would like to make this move around May. Any information is greatly appreciated.

I am originally from the Compton/Mendota area, so I know both L-P and the Ogle County area fairly well. You're gonna feel a bit more rural than you did in the Illinois Valley, and a bit more disconnected from basic shopping amenities, I think. Polo's fairly small, but does have its own school district with an elementary school, a middle school, and a high school. The demographics are not going to be really much different than you experienced when you lived in the Illinois Valley, most likely. It's rural, finding a spread with land shouldn't be incredibly problematic. Not sure on the taxes and so forth, I was not a homeowner when I lived in northern IL. Dixon, Sterling, Rock Falls are places you could use your nursing background, and Rockford's about 40 miles away.

I agree that Polo is a good town to raise a family. I live in Dixon, and I am an LPN, so I am familiar with the nursing environment here. If you want to do some research, the hospital in Sterling is called CGH Hospital. KSB Hospital is in Dixon (about 15 minutes from Polo), and FHN Memorial Hospital in is Freeport (30 minutes from Polo). They are all looking for RNs! Also there is the Sterling-Rock Fall Clinic - not sure what type of nursing you are looking for. I almost took an LPN position at the correctional center in Dixon, but opted for a job in a hospital. Anyway, the possibilites are endless! Good luck with everything!

Polo has an excellent school distict from what I hear. If you are looking for rural, it's a nice, safe place to raise a family. Dr Oh is a nice family doctor there in town. Lots of nursing jobs around here.

Isn't there a huge meth problem out near the Polo area?
