Uhhh, Champaign County will always be THE definition of flat.
Comments on the website of the Cleveland Plain Dealer today bemoan the lack of competition in Northeast Ohio for groceries. They really only have Giant Eagle [Giant Weasel] now, as Kroger does not compete anywhere northeast of Mansfield, roughly halfway between Columbus and Akron. But noooo, Chicagoland has both Dominicks and Jewel and it's not enough. I fail to be convinced that most "you know Illinois" statements are not of the same utility as those that describe Ohio, Indiana, Iowa, or Missouri. The foliage is much different in Michigan and Wisconsin, even if the beer is the same. The air is probably cleaner in Kansas ... |

When I say "Hopeless Rural" I speak of course of Northwestern Illinois.
When I say Northwestern Illinois, the common response i get is "Oh, you're from Chicago?" NO! CHICAGO IS THE ENEMY! ALL THOSE LITTLE A-HOLE WEEKENDERS COME OUT AND TELL US HOW HORRIBLE WE ARE TO BE IN A POVERSE AREA OF THE COUNTRY AND WHY WE SHOULD ALL MOVE TO CHICAGO! We had Sullivan's, Shaw's, and Heeren's. All of em sucked, cept Sullivan's. then there was Aldi in Clinton, and that's it. |

Poverse? Chicago is crowded enough, as it is I can never get a seat on the 'el', so stay there.
I don't even know what Sullivan's, Shaw's, and Heeren's are. Are they grocery stores? |

I have jumper cables in my Jeep (the 'no-tangle' kind) and get to use them often. Around the corner the Dunkin' Donuts lady gave me free coffee the day me and a friend pushed her into the parking lot in the snow she couldn't maneuver on her own. Folks are so diverse we tend not to speculate any more on people's origins. You don't always have to take stuff to the Salvation Army; the recycle people in their pickups are the gleaners in the alleys picking up anything reusable. I get rabbits, raccoons and yesterday a hawk in my backyard. The house next door is owned by nuns and there's a Mormon church across the street.
You gotta love the south side. |

Where is Chi Town? I have lived and worked in Chicago for 65 years and NEVER heard anyone who lives her refer to it as Chi Town. Perhaps it all started with the famous dragster Chi Town Hustler. "Chi Town" will mark you as a outsider in a minute. Another observation is that when most suburbanites are ask "where are you from?" the will reply Chicago. Everyone wants to be from Chicago but no one wants to live here

You've NEVER in your life been passed by a car with Wisconsin plates on the highway, but routinely fly by "America's Dairyland" tags like they're stopped at a $1.99 buffet.
It's true. |
