Default Peoria or Illinois car license plate question

In some states, car license plate stay with owner. In some states, they remain with cars- Some require changing when you change state. What is in Illinois?

If a used out of state car is to be bought and then registered in Illinois, what are the steps or documents essential?

Just to make sure that there is no hassle if I buy a car from neighbouring state IN, WI or KY, to registration to IL, it is a smooth event.

You'll need to take the title, insurance card, identification and possibly a bill from a local utility. Handicap plates are mailed. You can also get a card for the dash or a hanging placard if you are handicaped. The drivers license requires more identification than the plates do. If you are older than 62 you can apply for Circuit Breaker which allows you to get plates at a discounted price.

In and out in under 30 minutes most times. I would not call the employees there "cheery" or even particularly polite, but they get the job with minimal hassle.

I suspect it has to do with the fact that few of the employees have any obvious political ties. There are people that probably "got in" why back int he Thompson administration, others are more recent hires, Diverse bunch. They get the job done!

The nice thing about Illinois is there is a license office in every county. If you go to a smaller town, you can get in and out quickly.
