I just moved here from Florida and I'm trying to get on at the mines here in Southern IL. My tags are about 2 weeks expired and I don't want to get IL tags in case I have to move on if things don't work out. Is there any way I can get temp tags?

The only temp tags in Illinois are for you to use while you are waiting for the State to mail yours to you. (You might have to wait for the Governor to make them) There are no partial year plates you will pay for the full year.

There are "temp" plates, but they are for things like a 5 day window to move a normally non-used vehicle, or as the other poster said while you are waiting for your permanent plates in the mail, and no half-year, one month, just visiting type of deal. I think IL requires you to switch over to IL plates after being a resident for 90 days. If you really are looking for some type of temp tag, perhaps your home state could help you out.

Default thanks for the advice

My tags are expired so I may just bite the bullet. Looking at possibilities in WY and CA.
