I am from Colombia and came to this country legally with my husbando (from California) that was 19 years ago. Today, divorced with 3 kids I want to relocate to Illinois but I do not want to be so discriminated or my kids (half white). I know Colombia has a bad reputation but all of us belong to the cartel, most of us are honest, hard working people.

Please let me know your opinions, thanks

There are MANY hispanics in the entire Chicagoland region. There are also a large number of Colombians in the Southern Illinois region, near Marion and Murphysboro.

I worked with a guy from Colombia, and went out to some of their hang outs... there are definitely places to go. In a place like Chicago I don't think you will be discriminated against at all being hispanic... about 1/3 of chicagoans in the city limits are hispanic.

The hispanic population in Chicagoland is pretty big, mostly from Mexico. There is a big colombian and Venezuelan colony, there is also a group called Somos Colombia that meets in Elgin every month at the Police Department and I'm sure in Chicago. I understand there are few grocery stores and restaurants in Chicago, never been but heard they are good. I myself was born in Colombia and raised in Venezuela, now I live and work in Elgin as a Realtor. There is no discrimination.

Peoria is much like Chicago in that is has a diverse culture and a very diverse relgious community.
There is also a Latino community. But, Peoria is 1/10th the size of Chicago.

Doubt you'd have any more problems in Chicago than you would in California. We may not have nearly as many Colombians as say a Miami or an NYC, but I'm sure there's still a decent amount mixed in among the rest of the very large Latin-American (primarily Mexican, followed by Puerto Rican) population in Chicago and the surrounding metropolitan area. I'm not so sure I could say the same thing about central & southern Illinois, however.
