Any Eureka College graduates here?
We recently took the tour, and listened to the sales pitch while they dangled the Reagan scholarship in front of us. I'm starting to believe that they offer that to everybody just to get you there for the sales pitch.
These our our thoughts. We loved Eureka, and the smalltown life. The surrounding area is what we are used to. We also live in the middle of no where.
We liked that the professors teach their own classes, and that the classes are very small.
Everybody seems to look out for each other. Just like a family.
We didn't like the focus of the school. It seemed way too liberal for us. By that, I mean that all of the student speeches were focused on going to Africa to dig a well, or saving some other third world country.
It didn't seem like they were focused on getting you the best education in your field so that you can find a really good job. They weren't interested in making you competitive in the job market.
Are my assessments accurate, or am I missing something here?

Well, almost a week and not a single response. That tells me that this college is even more insignificant than I thought.

I wish I could add something to help you. I KNOW a married couple that both went to Eureka College. I have never even asked them what they thought about the college. I will get back with you.

OK, here is my friends response to your question. She is very busy so I was suprised at the length of her response. I simply copied her reply.
(Copy)
In the four years I attended Eureka College and I
never once participated in the liberal aspect they are
referring to. Eureka College is like every college
campus atmosphere. I sat on many planning committees
and I was the President of Campus Activities during my
years of college and everything I was involved in,
helped me prepare for life and my current job. I went
into college not knowing exactly what I wanted to do
with my life and with the help of the faculty and my
advisor, I was able to choose a path that not only
gave me the education needed to pursue my goals but
the experience I would use in the future. The more you
are involved at the school, the more you benefit from
what they have to offer. The liberal atmosphere you
are referring to is such a small portion of the
school. Depending on who gave you the tour and "sales
pitch" would directly affect your perceptions of the
school. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at
Eureka College and my husband is also an alum. His
experience was very different than mine as well
because of the activities and fraternity he chose to
be actively involved in. Eureka is what you make it.
It is small enough that you can make a difference and
receive the attention you want from your professors. I
hope this helps. I would also recommend taking another
tour with a different guide and see what their "sales
pitch" is. I assure you that you will see many
different sides to the school. Best of Luck in your
pursuit...Cortney (2000)

Tell your friend thank you for her reply and advice.
I would also like to thank you for taking the time to find me a graduate from there. That is very much appreciated.

I didn't graduate there, but I live in Eureka and love it. It's a great small town and you're close to both Peoria and Bloomington. There is growth all around, but Eureka maintains its small town feel.
From what I know about EC, your perceptions are wrong. It is a tiny liberal arts college with a quality faculty and a beautiful campus. They've also recently lowered their tuition to be competitive.
If you think EC is liberal, you'll probably never find a campus that you think isn't. Bob Jones University might be more your speed. This is a conservative town and it's a conservative school.

Thanks for the replies. My daughter received a scholarship from Robert Morris University in Pa. I loved the Eureka area, and would have sent her there, but it comes down to finance in the end. Thanks again.
