That is really high. It's certainly not how I remember it. What is the source of that statistic?

I couldn't find a source for that statistic, so I retract it. However, here is an impressive stat that is sourced.

8.8 million passenger trips in 2000. http://www.bts.gov/publications/stat...ble_04_03.html

The table clearly shows that the CU MTD is the largest public transport system in Illinois outside of Chicago. You can see how much larger a ridership it has than cities that are larger, such as Bloomington-Normal and Peoria.

When I lived in Champaign from 1998-2003, I used the bus system quite a bit to go to and from campus. I loved the ease of the bus system, and for a relatively small city, I was quite impressed with the organization of the busses.

It's because they have a campus with 20,000+ students, many without cars.

As far as "green" Illinois cities, Peoria is an underestimated gem. There are gorgeous river bluffs and miles and miles and miles of single track trail.

Peoria is pretty. When I get sick of Champaign and have time, I take a drive up there.

So you go daily, hey? LOL! Coming from Pittsburgh, with its three rivers, I like the Illinois River at Peoria.

Nah, whenever I have a spare weekend but not enough time to spend all my money in Chicago or Indianapolis.

Being from Michigan, I like hills and rivers and that kind of thing. Lakes are good too.
