I live in Manteno. Im a senior in high school. there is a lot of drinking and drugs. but you will get that in all towns in this nation. It is still a much better area than Kankakee, i dont like going there (i avoid it as much as possible) and most of the drugs that are in Manteno originate in Kankakee.
Manteno Has a really good school system.
I used to live in Frankfort. it is a much better area to live.... if you can afford a house there. youll get more bang for your buck in kankakee county though.

Hope this helps!

Plus the drummer for the band STYX lives there too. i don't think you can find celebrities living in kankakee like that unless they are former NBA ballers who lost all of their money to crack. frankfort also has a ridiculously competent police force since they don't have much trouble but a ton of money. there are million dollar homes in frankfort in places like Butternut and Prestwick but there are also 250,000 dollar homes just west of matteson.

i worked in manteno for 3 years. it's a very nice community but manteno, monee, bourbonnais, and bradley are nothing like kankakee.
frankfork still has a lot of drug problems. i lived ther for 13 years. quite a bit of drunk driving, too. but the school system is amazing.

Manteno would probibly be one of the better places to settle in kankakee county. its about 40 minutes from orland, an hour from chicago... shopping in bourbonais is nice and convinient. people are nice. I-57, Route 45, and Route 50 make travel easy. there are a lot of forest preserves around.

The fact of the matter is, this is just another city destroyed by forced integration.

The fact to the matter is that the Kankakee, Bradley Bourbonnais area is the absolute worst place I have ever lived. The corruption in Chicago doesn't hold a candle to this area. Fortunately, with all the corruption investigations going on elsewhere and being such a hot topic in the news, the "Good ole boys club"will soon get whats coming to them real soon. It is going to start in the local court system and works its way down. Special elections will have to be held in order to replace those who will soon be taking up residence in the Illinois penal system. I cannot wait. I will be the first one to give them a warming gift to make them feel right at home in their jail cell.

Is Kankakee really that bad? How? Is it because of the decline in industrial economy there? My mother lived in both Aroma Park and Bourbonais during her teenage years (late 1960's and early 1970's) before moving to Indianapolis. She said she loved that pretty small town of Aroma Park.

I moved out of Kankakee right after high school, lived in August GA, Columbia SC, Carbondale IL, and Chicago.

There are good and bad to every place... but after all of the places I have lived, I have no problem saying that I miss the Greater K3 Area.

Too often, in a medium size town, people focus on all the bads and have this idea that other places must be better. I have lived in other places, and they are all pretty much the same. The people are what makes the difference, and the people of Kankakee like to focus on the negative.
