Whose in Macomb?
So who all on this site is from Macomb? I just signed up, did a search and found nothing too recent about this place. I have been going to school here for a couple years, have met some peopple, still friends with lots of people from back home...but who else is in this small little town with me?
and yes i can call it a small town being how i am from a town near the city (chicago) with over 150K people.
HOPE TO HEAR BACK FROM SOME MACOMBIE HOMIES OR OTHER STUDENTS!

The town, and you were right to call it a small town, has 8,000 or so residents if you don't count the college students. I guess none of them frequent CD. I went to WIU, and loved the college and the campus, but would have preferred it was located somewhere else...
If they ever build the Quad City riverfront campus, I wonder how many folks will consider coming here rather than a place where your shopping options consist of Walmart or KMart.

haha - yeah its always a shock in a half when the students leave for the summer. I am from near chicago but have stayed the past two summers for summer class and ... you can literally drive wrecklessly and have it not matter due to that little of people being out and about. what a horrible town.
there is a buffalo wild wings here now .... WOW! hahahA

Di you mean to ask who is in Macomb? Probably the folks who make Macomb their home. It's in farm country, WIU is locaterd in Macionb. Therefore it would reasonable to say Macomb is a farm town that has an increased student population ten months out of a year. The town focus is much like other farm towns, its about farms and ranches from planting and tractors to weather and how many calfs die in the spring. My small town has two tractor dealers, four lawn and yard tractor dealers, six stores from which to buy tractor parts, a store that rents farm equipment, and a fall parade that features some great local marching bands, floats, and the newest farm equipment. Without the farmers and ranchers, all the little farm towns like Macomb and Havana would be ghost towns. Have you ever made fresh popcorn off the cob? It's pretty good stuff,

That's the exact attitude that many of the Macomb residents have. Its completely wrong, however. Without the farmers Macomb would still be a college town. Without the college, however, Macomb would be a town of a few hundred residents, instead of 8,000 with 12,000 students. Without the college, Macomb would be no different than the nearby town of Good Hope. (Population 415)

Not necessarily. Macomb was a farm town 100 years before WIU was built. If the state closed WIU, Macomb would still be farm town. Its true the box stores would close, and maybe the theater if there is one. But the grocer, gas station, pharmacy, banker, barber and other essentials would still be there. Money from the school itself is not enough to support city services because the school is not large enough. If the state bought up several thousand acres and developed another university the size of a city, then that would be a different scenario. As long as Macomb is a small very conservative city, you gets what you pays for.
No student is chained to any a college in any town. Move. Here's a list of options: List of colleges and universities in Illinois - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

yeah i know im not stuck here in macomb... however i do enjoy western and the professors associated with my major here. i am doing good here and can party all the time as well as never study since i came from a highschool where all four of my years there were harder than any one here...or you know what im saying.
also macomb isn't that horrible of a town, people are decent. And also if i were to choose a different universtiy or college .... i would not pick one in illinois. I picked western because it was cheap my parents could easily pay for it and i would not have any loans. however if i wanted to worry about loans maybe...then i would of choosen an out of state school. perhaps cali or az

I hate to be unkind, Opie, but I hope you're not majoring in anything involving writing. "Would of choosen?" Come on. If your high school was that "hard," I don't see how you graduated.
I am a WIU grad, and also a native Macombite. I came through the University system from kindergarten on up--there was a laboratory school until the late 70s.
If you're accustomed to, and insistent upon, a suburban feel, Macomb is not your town. I always liked the town-and-gown mix, and I think it raised me well.
Maybe you just don't proofread...
