I think what I said is pretty honest, direct, and as fair as I can think. There are some really great people here, but also some tremendous poverty and very dangerous streets and many, many problems of huge magnitude.

They have a live feed of a police scanner. There is also an interesting crime map on their website. You can follow them on Facebook and get updates of things going on. Lately it seems to be shooting and armed robberies. Many are taking place in broad daylight which speaks volumes.

The obvious answer is if you are not comfortable living in Rockford look in Rockton or Cherry Valley or somewhere else to live.

Not a good area at all. Sorry to disappoint you. The City of Rockford with it's Misery loves company "new tagline' is a joke and mockery of the entire city. Instead of fixing what needs to be fixed (high crime, welfare environment, no street lights -- yes, they took out half of them, and crime increased greatly) There is an armed robbery every night, at least one, if not three. There is a man in the hospital dying right now, due to an incident not far from this area (if you mean 22nd ave and 4th st) Pizza delveries are taking a risk in this city. Gas station attendants are sitting ducks.

You might have to look much further east or much further north (god forbid west or south) of your chosen location.

If you do move, make sure you have two deadbolts on each exterior door, no open windows, and a good alarm system, combined with a large dog and a FOID card, so you can protect your home.

Your town, as well as Loves Park, Machesney park, Belvidere, Roscoe, Rockton, Pec, Winnebago, and other outlying areas is beginning to suffer the backlash of living among trash. The longer you sit by the trash, the more you'll begin to stink. police calls have quadrupled in the last 20 years in these areas, as a direct result of Rockford not throwing the trash away before the expiration date. It's coming. In 20 years, you won't be able to tolerate your pretty little town.

MAKE Rockford change their atmosphere, or you're all going to go down with it. Just a few decades longer folks. I would think the outlying areas would be pressuring the officials in Rockford to fix their problems.

But, they won't.

You guys are "sheltered". Sure Rockford could be and many years ago was better. But all these posts making it sound like Flint, East St. Louis or Gary are quite frankly, ridiculous.

Even areas around such a town would be ok if home prices are not crazy. I do not count any suburb. The taxes are ridiculous in any worthwhile suburb. I enjoy hiking and some culture but also would like my privacy. Sounds like a lot. But there must be some place like that in Illinois. And please do not send me down south. I know land is cheaper there but not interested in anything south of say.. Effingham. Thanks

peoria is the best city in illinioz
