Hello,

I'm moving from FL back to IL in a little over two years. I have a couple vehicles I no longer have liens against and have the Florida titles to them.

When I move back to Illinois, will I have to apply for new titles in Illinois for my vehicles and surrender my Florida ones? Sorry, it's been a while since I've done this, while actually paying off my vehicles. I do know I have to register them, but was wondering if I had to re-title them too.

Thanks in advance.

When you apply for plates you have to surrender title. You get new plates then, and state issues new IL title.in a couple of weeks. It is easy and painless.

Ditto to that. I moved here from California, and was amazed at the ease, speed and relative inexpense of government services in Illinois. Of course that was 18 years ago, but it's still a vast improvement over the horror of maneuvering through the California DMV.

Thanks for the replies, including from linicx. Yes, I also lived in Cali and now in FL, and the DMV services in IL looks like haven't changed. They've provided the excellent services since I left and it looks like they continue to do so, compared to FL and Cali. FL is improving, but I wonder what took them so long compared to how IL was doing. Just goes to show that there is progress as long as the corruption is focused on the right areas, LOL.

It's funny how the costs are so relative. We recently moved here from the south, and the titling/tags was about 50% higher here.

As the fifth largest state it takes more money to provide basic services. On the other hand, the grocery tax is 1%. If you are over 62 years of age, and enrolled in Cirrcuit Breaker, license plates cost $24.

Where from the South? Aren't the fees for newer vehicles in Mississippi sky high?
