What do you think about the town?
Are there any families with twins in this town?
Are there any Twin groups?
Do you know of any safe ,nice ,close by(no more then 20 min.) towns are in the country from this town?
Are there any mountians in this area? Maybe not Mt's but large hills?

Hello from nearby Marion
Hi. I live in Murphysboro. A nice, small, safe town about 20 minutes from Marion. Actually I live in the countryside between Carbondale and Murphysboro on the edge of the Shawnee National Forest.
I don't go to Marion too often and can't say anything about twins, but I can tell you if you look at Route 13 stretching from the Mississippi to Marion you will go through several towns with different characters. Murphysboro is probably the most quaint and small-townish. Carbondale is a university town. Then another small town, Carterville, then Marion (which is still relatively small, but given the proximity to the highways the largest, fastest-growing and most business-oriented.)
If you look to the south of Marion there is Lake of Egypt where there are some lovely lakeside homes. It is the only lake in the are that is developed commercially. Going there back west again you will see lots of other lakes.
This is where the glaciers stopped and deposited their rock and soil forming the foothills of the Ozarks, so there is definitely roll to the land. Mountains might be pushing it, but large hills, yes. Tons of state and national park land with rock formations, ravines and "hollers". Plenty of orchards and vineyards too.
There are also towns to the north and southwest of Marion. Once you get north, however, you lose the roll to the land. I'm not as familiar with the territory going east along 13, but about an hours drive southeast is a beautiful area called Garden of the Gods. You can find a picture of this area in nearly any tourist publication on Illinois.
Hope this helps.

I agree with Ratbert......
There is a twin group out at Heartland Regonal Hospital I heard from a lady who had twins.....Lake of Egypt is def hilly but not mountains.....Eps the back side that goes into Shawnee Nation Forest. One of my cousins live on the south side and have 90 steps to get down to the boatdock......Also Giant City State Park and Ferne Clyffe State Park has some nice hills. I have seen Turkey, Deer and Foxes when driving through. There are several lakes in the area and State Parks in southern IL.. Lake of Egypt is growing as well but still a country setting .Deer can been seen everynight if you drive around... Let me know if you have any other questions......I will post some pics......

Herrin IL
Oceanaddict,
I just moved to the area from Central Illinois and I'm still on the fence about alot of things.. Iwould like to say that Herrin IL is just north of Marion off of I-57 and it is a wonderful little town. We live in a duplex on the east end of town and love it!! E-mail me at benwa51879@yahoo.com if you want more info. We had a hard time finding a decent place down here but I'd be happy to give you some help finding something.

I am a mom of twins-
Oceanaddict
Hi My name is Dawn Taylor and I am a mom of twins. I have boys that will be two in Sept and two others that are 7 and 4. My husband is a prof at SIU and we live between Herrin and Carterville.
I am in a great mom of twins club. Not a formal one with fees etc.but rather more informal- moms go out to eat, garage sales, that sort of thing. A couple of the moms have triplets. We are families from all over southern IL Benton, Marion, Murphysboro, etc. Let me know if you are moving here. my email is dawntaylor@mail.com
PS that twin group at Heartland sort of fell apart. I tried to go to it as well, but it was not active.
Take care,
Dawn
PS Also, I am a realtor if you need help finding a place to live.
