Washington...
Anybody have the goods on Washington? I am planning on moving to Peoria or Peoria Metro in 12 months. Seems like a small town with a pop of about 10,000. Any news about shopping and calling the town home. With a town of that size I would think that jobs would not be prevalent even in a good economy, right? I had a friend of mine 30 years ago rent apartment there in Washington while attending ICC.

Washington has an awesome candy store! Just had to mention that. That is where I shop when I'm in the area. I'm sure that everyone that lives in Washington works at Cat or the hospitals...for the most part. We tried to find a house in Washington but everything in our price range was around the Sunnyland area. I don't know why they consider that Washington.

The people I knew who lived in Washington owned or managed businesses, were professionals, teachers, bankers, IT, farmers. etc.. It is a upper middle class, white collar, farm town, City. It us is probably not really a suburb of Peoria as it is in a different county than P:eoria, and Washington is included is in fact located in the the Peoaria Metropolitan Stistical Area. The Washington school district has always been pretty good. I think you will find most of the basic services and businesses you expect, a town square, and perhaps a small mall nearby. Once you get off the major street you'll find Washington is a City of many trees and very werll maintanted older homes. I have always held the opinion that as a whole Washington is a small but very pretty community in Tazewell County.
The lowest taxes in the five county area are probably found in Fulton County which shares it northern most border with Peoria County. .

Washington is a pretty decent town. Washington is in the Peoria metro area (> 300,000 people) and less than a 10 min drive from Peoria so you get the benefit of living in a smaller town with all the advantages of a "city" (smaller city). Most people in Washington work somewhere else in the Peoria metro area so the job market is really the Peoria Metro job market. There is a reasonable amount of shopping & restaurants within the town and if you need something not in Washington, you can just drive to Peoria. Washington schools are pretty good and housing prices are quite reasonable. Not a bad choice if you want smaller town living.
