I'm surprised more states haven't grabbed on to this idea.

Colorado has several such plates; Pennsylvania has a lot. I like the standard Illinois plate with the picture of Lincoln. Also like the one with the cardinal.

Nothing. It's just notable that Illinois has so many customized plates.
As for special plate designs, so many states have them now that I would expec a police union protest. You can't geographically profile people when you don't instantly recognize the plate on their car. Except, of course, for university series plates. "You driving around with THAT in Illinois?" Yes Mr Illinois Nazi, sir.

Watch out for the Illinois Nazis this weekend, sitting in the median "every ten miles."

Speaking of personalized plates, I saw a good one last night on an old Chevy van (early 80s model perhaps). It was jet black, was jacked up in the back, had some loud exhaust, and tinted fishbowl windows in the rear. License plate was "SINBOX". Made me chuckle.

Ive seen several plates that Im surprised even got approved. I saw a heavily modified Nissan 350Z a few months back, the license plate read: FSTASFQ. Figure it out...

Illinois doesn't care about your soul, because it figures you have none. It only wants your money. Blagojevich smiles every time I use my I-PASS.

Strange. I'm surprised it outstrips California in that regard, I always noticed more vanity places in CA than anywhere else I've been. Texas is a wasteland as far as vanity plates go...

"It is just another way TO MAKE MONEY!!!! "
Very true. All of those vanity plates have an extra annual fee tacted on. Usually $20 per year that goes toward the programs the plates sponsor, such as education, wildlife, enviroment, etc.

I agree with the poster who said something about low numbered vanity plates. I heard they were reserved for politicians, the mob, famous people etc... The other day I saw a car with the number 25 on the plate. I tried to look to see if it was a person of interest but I have no idea who it was. Wasn't Scottie Pipin number 25??
