Rockford's taxes are high and their streets are horrendous for cracks, crevices and in some cases unfilled potholes. (I was told that some of that is due to the roads being state roads. Why can't the city fill in the holes and bill the state.)
More reasonable taxes are in the suburbs around Rockford, like Loves Park, etc. Of course, although I live in the near west side, and the city has been trying to stimulate businesses to develop in the west side, it hasn't happened and so stay away from the west side.
Lastly, the schools in Belvidere are fantastic. This, sad to say means that the taxes are very high. Many belvidere teachers do not live anywhere near their school---that says something too for the high property taxes.
