Default Flower that looks lik a knitted sock

My mom told me about a flower she remembered seeing when she was a kid living in Jerseyville, Illnois. The flower looked like a knitted sock. The plant was in the ground, not in a container, and it was probably a vine, or climber. Does anyone know the name of this plant? I'm having no luck in the Tucson forum, not a lot of posters, so I thought I would try your forum. Thanks!

It is probably the "Naked Lady". It is an early bloomer that looks different than any other plant. Mow it down in the fall and if comes back the next year. If may grow well in Southern Illinois but not at all in Chicago. It blooms during the day and then covers itself to reopen the next day until it dies. My neighbor thought I was too funny that I didn't know if it was a weed or a plant. It just does not act like a rose or any other spring flower I am familiar with. I do not know the reasl name of the "Naked Lady" flower.

Although it doesn't look like a sock, I think it might have been a passion flower.

The naked lady is a type of lily.

I have no idea what you mean when you say a flower that looks like a knitted sock! That makes me laugh!
