Carbondale, IL
Hi everyone,
I got an acceptance to SIUC and most probably, I will choose to go there but I would like to get some insights about Carbondale and any places closer to Carbondale. I will be living alone and I will be looking for the safest apartments and/or gated communities. Any suggestions? And how is the social life? Any responses will be appreciated.

It is a black dominated college. Just stay on Illinois Ave. and you will have a ball. Back in the day that's where they had their halloween bashes and what not. There's a ton of bars and late night eateries/pizza by the slice places right off that street. And at 2am all the bars would close and drunken college students would all flood into the street. A simple chant of something to the effect of "let me see your breasts" would have a lot of girls on guys shoulders turning Carbondale into the French Quarter of New Orleans on Fat Tuesday! Seriously, it's a party school in a beautiful natural setting.

I lived in Wright II. There were 3 white guys on the floor and 15 black guys. Across the hall was the girls side.  Where I lived, it was black dominated. I think most white kids lived off campus. When you live on campus, around Wright II, it is black dominated. That was my experience. |
