Boring Springfield, Illinois
Anyone ever notice how BORING springfield is?!
Let's say you just drove into town, here's what you will basically see:
corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, beans, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, Walmart, Target, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, McDonalds, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, OffTop Records, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, beans, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, Sex Shop, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, corn, Deja Vu, corn, corn.
Now let's say you drove downtown:
Library, hobo, corn, corn, corn, corn, DMV, corn, corn, corn, corn, Post Office, corn, corn, corn, Pay Day loans, Check Into Cash, Same Day Cash Advance, Title Loans, Republican State Headquarters- same building as the Check Into Cash building, corn, corn, guy getting robbed while visiting Lincoln Memorial.
Yes, there is corn DOWNTOWN
The only semi-enjoyable place in Springfield is the Lincoln Sites, but even then, you better bring 5-7 $10's because you WILL get asked to spare some change that many times.
You know what, someone should sell passes (that money goes to help homeless people buy their condoms and crack) to the Lincoln Sites give you a sign to wear that repel homeless people....great business plan.
Remember,
"Friends don't let friends move to Springfield."

Springfield
I moved away from Springfield about 10 years ago. If you think Springfield is boring, you should have been there then. Downtown basically shut down about 3:30pm most days.
When I come back to visit now, I've been impressed. Springfield has made progress, there's actually quite a bit more to do there now. The Presidential library has really brought in alot of shops, bars, restaurants and businesses downtown (many that are even open later at night). A number of the residential neighborhoods close to downtown have really cleaned themselves up.

Funny, I lived there three years and did not see any corn downtown.
Here is what I saw downtown.
BAR, BAR, STATE CAPITOL, BAR, BAR.
I liked springfield. I would have no issue living there again.

Illinois is a farm state. It is known as a Beef and Grain Belt State. I do not undesstand why amyone whines when they find corn, beans, wheat, road side fruit and vegetable stands, farmer's makets, cows, pigs, and lambs in a farming and ranching state. We feed the world.
This is kinda like going to Chicago and whining about 5 pm traffic on the Outer Drive and the water in Lake Michigan. I do not know where the OP came from, but he needs to go home to mommy.
I am not a fan of one-way streets, but otherwise I find Springflied an okay town. I never did find the Irish bar, but I didn't spend a lot of time looking, either. .

I can sympathize, but only a little. You need to try and make an effort to find interesting places. If you're interested in social activity, there's plenty of bars and clubs. There's also a little bit of college life near UIS, but it's not a huge school so don't have your hopes too high.
If you like the outdoors, check out Carpenter Park, Lincoln Memorial Gardens, and the Salt Creek area owned by CWLP. They're all within an easy drive of almost anywhere in Springfield.

My dad lived in Springfield from 2005-07, I visited him there a couple of times, and while it's not my favorite city, I thought it was an interesting city. If you look hard enough, you might find something interesting to do, rather than be expected to be spoon-fed entertainment.
