4. Very rare to run into traffic; convenient commute to anywhere in town.
Negatives: (there are many, so here's a few I consider to be important)
1. Rockford is a very backwards, time warped town. We were probably the last city in the country to get a Starbucks. However, every other chain restaurant is here.
2. The city and some committees have made several attempts to revitalize the downtown. However, the PEOPLE who live here have not supported their efforts - you have to show up to events and SPEND MONEY to make a downtown thrive! Therefore, the downtown is pretty sparse of businesses and entertainment.
3. Void of charm and cultural forms of entertainment/activities
4. The concept of embracing diversity hasn't quite made it to Rockford yet.

im still waiting to see which rockford you are talking bout.... anyways who would even look at a city that gets a starbucks last? there is no word explaining to how absurd that is..... and to go spend money at boring events that are for the geysers and jazz folks is just pointless especially with the economy and the amount of people jobless many people dont have any money to spend.....

As I said before:
Rockford has extremely high taxes with little to show for it.
Poor schools.
No cultural diversity.
Few restaurants for the size.
Way too many churches per square foot.
Way too much crime.
Poor medical care.
Crappy downtown.
Crappy home builders.
No real sports teams.
Way too far from Chicago and the rest of civilization.
No train to get you to civilization.
Too many fields.
Too many pick up trucks and red necks.
Business district is composed of big box chains.
No real jobs.
Crooked government.

Why so much emphasis on Starbucks, as if it is some kind of prerequisite for respectability of a city or town? Not that I love Rockford, I've only gone there once so far in 2009, and the downtown was less impressive than some suburban downtowns with populations under 40,000, but I am sure there exists somewhere in the world a perfectly descent place to live that does not have a Starbucks.

So what in blazes did the OP's comments have to do with Starbuck's or with Jehovah's Witnesses. OK, we get it. You don't like Rockford. Can you either 1) Get a plan to move somewhere you want to be and act on it quickly? or 2) Contribute something productive or relevant to the conversation?
Thank you

I'll say it again. Rockford, comparatively speaking, is a nicer city when compared to other cities of similar size. I'll take it over South Bend or Ft. Wayne, Dayton or Toledo. All 4 are decent places, BTW. A really bad place to live that is similar in size to Rockford is Flint, MI. All of the folks who hate Rockford so much should be required to visit Flint with open mind, ears, and eyes. Unless they are either stupid or brazen, they will be terrified, and return to Rockford with a new sense of appreciation for this relatively decent city, and a sense of just how bad some cities in our country have become.
