Has nothing happened with Roland Burris, Senator?
I haven't been keeping up with it, but I do know it was "suggested" Burris step down on May 29th in the Senate. What has happened since then or is the Senate on vacation?
Surely, the Chicago Tribune is keeping all posted.

A suggestion is just that. Burris can ignore it if he wishes and he wishes. The Senate has the right to expel him, but that is an extreme step that has only been done a couple of times in the entire history of the country. Expect him to continue to warm the chair until January 20, 2011, unless of course, he wins the election, God help us all.

Chicago might vote for him, but I don't see the rest of the State doing so. This guy--who probably has some great qualities regardless--looks like a pathetic social climber at this point with his aggressive dowhateverittakes attitutude. How can he even respect himself? I think he just doesn't care, because it's all about his ego now.

I've always had a lot of respect for Mr Burris. He has a long, honorable history of good public service. He was an excellent attorney general. It is very sad to see him embarrassing himself like this. His apparent inability or unwillingness to directly answer simple questions is very troubling. I wish him well, but at this point, the sooner he is gone from the Senate, the better.

trailerguy, I totally agree with you. He has accomplished so much in his past. Why is he making such an ego-driven jerk of himself now. Sad. And I'm sure he doesn't see himself like you and I do.

The powerful and elite protect there own kind. No perjury charges and he won't be stepping down. The politicians have NOTHING in common with the rest of us. If we lied under oath, we'd be in jail.

He might win re-election.
Most of Chicago will vote for him as long as the (D) is at the end of his name.
Look at the whole Stroger situation...a shameful end-around, nepotistic move and the guy still easily wins the election against the republican patsy. lol. Then the guy sticks it to cook county hospital....at least he is looking out for the little guy. <sigh>

Never underestimate the pull in Chicago of just being labeled a Democrat. Really stupidity in action. Issues are NOT the issue in Chicago...labels are the important thing there I know...sad..and totally stupid isn't it? And the entire State seems that way. Gee, I wonder WHY Illinois is one of the most crooked States in the Nation?

Yeah, I don't care WHAT party it is....Democrat, Republican, Communist....when you have one party domination it breeds corruption.
Chicago folks get to enjoy the sales tax (hike), the high property taxes etc. to keep all the connected people and their relatives richly employed. I love the area, lived there for quite a while, but hate the entrenched aristocracy...there really isn't a Democracy there.
