How could I forget Ray's Brand chilli.....Decatur and shipped all over the USA (using the two "L's" Illinois is known for).

1993 - In 1993, the Illinois State Senate passed a resolution proclaiming that Springfield, Illinois was to be the "Chilli Capital of the Civilized World." Naturally this outrages Texans! 1977 - The chili manufacturers of the state of Texas, successfully lobbied the Texas legislature to have chili proclaimed the official "state food" of Texas "in recognition of the fact that the only real 'bowl of red' is that prepared by Texans."

Unfortunately, we lost our Chilli Mann plant which was located in Litchfield and which was owned by the Milnot Company....they also manufactured Milnot in Litchfield. But the Milnot company is still owned by a Chicago based investment company, Madison Dearborn Partners:

For big-ticket items, someone mentioned the Mitsu plant downstate. There's also a Chrysler plant in Belvidere and a Ford plant in Chicago.

And Lord knows how many small-ticket items are produced in mom-and-pop shops tucked away here and there. I used to work at an unassuming little factory out in the Chi suburbs, and out of that factory comes over 300 million credit/debit/gift/etc. cards per year. As for the global angle brought up, my primary client was in England, and they in turn provided card services for the Irish market as well as the UK. Other international clients I dealt with were located in Kuwait and Georgia.

Credit Cards. Who woodda thunk it? I think it is amazing. There is also a little Polish company up in chicago that produces Amonium Bicarbonate for bakers.

There are so many products that are made in Illinois - including Amish Furniture at Arthur, It is unfair for some to categorize Chicago as the only manufacturer in Illinois. Chicago is certainly a major player, but it is not the only player.

Yep, just a box-building out in the suburbs. Nothing fancy. No fanfare or self-aggrandizement. But last I checked they were the third-largest card manufacturer in the world. There's a fair chance you have one of their cards in your wallet.
