Life in Champaign/Urbana with small children
My wife and I and two small children (ages 2 and 4) will be moving to Champaign/Urbana soon and need to know what there is to do. Is there lots to offer for the kids (museums, water parks, playgrounds, science centers, etc)? What about the schools? I'm sure the best areas are in the smaller towns around but what about Champaign/Urbana schools? Thanks for the insight.

I looked in Champaign Park District and Recreation and did not find anything that seemed to focus on young children. except a pre-school in May.
I know Bloomington has a rock climbing wall. and a small zoo in Miller Park.
I am not trying to hijack this thread. You'll find kid friendly interactive museums, riverfront plaza with fountain, paddle boats, minature golf, fish hatchery, observatory, large zoo, look out tower, and a park district that manages 60,000 acres of various events like free Saturday night movies for the family all summer, weather permitting, amphitheater, summer stock, etc.. The downside it is all in the Peoria area. IF you want more information about the things I mentioned send me a Direct Message by clicking on my name.
I will not comment further on this post.

I grew up in Champaign Urbana in fact my mother is now trying to sell her house near Bottenfield School now that she's retired from working in the Champaign schools. Bottenfield school is still pretty good is what I know. If you want parochial school then St. Matthews is good. Private school would be Countryside (?) School. You are welcome to pm me if you want.

Champaign-Urbana is great. The U of I has lots of family activities and things for children. I can't speak on behalf of the schools, but if you search it you'll be okay. If you want a small college town with a little bit of everything Chambana is right for you.

Mahomet has a good high school, but you'd have to commute for anything interesting. Not saying that central IL is thrilling. It's very doable. I know many people that make the drive. It just depends on where you want to be.

There are a variety of parks, and a children's science museam, the orpheum. Both libraries are great and have a variety of storytimes. The schools are decent but not great.
