Default In your region of Illinois..

What income level is considered poor, middle class and upper middle? Not talking govt standards, rather reality.

This could be a very interesting topic. Personally, I am curious about the DeKalb/Sycamore region, as I'm sure the results are probably more skewed to lower income amounts due to DeKalb being a college town. I'm sure if you look at the Geneva/St. Charles area just 20 miles to the east, it would be a completely different story!

I live in the Springfield area and I would say that the average income for a middle-class family is in the range of $70,000. Anything below $30,000 or so would probably be considered fairly poor (and, in reality, it would be a real struggle for a family earning this much-although many do and figure out a way to survive). There are many families that earn in excess of $100K and I would say that a family income of $175K or so would put you in the upper 20% or so of all families. We also have our share of entrepreneurs and executives that make mega-bucks as well as our share of people who live in outright poverty.
