If you're looking for newer homes; there are new subdivisons in Creston as well as Malta (if you're into the small town thing....less than 1,000 people in those two towns). As for parks, the city of DeKalb has a decent park district (almost 40 parks/venues in their domain). DeKalb is large enough to offer a wide variety of home options: older century homes in the central neighborhoods, smaller 1960's suburban type neighborhoods, plenty of apartments due to the college, and newer suburban neighborhoods (such as the Knolls and Rivermist). Don't forget about the options in Cortland or Sycamore as well.....along with DeKalb, these 3 towns are always clustered together.
As for schools, DeKalb, Cortland, and Malta are all within the same district. Sycamore has it's own district. And I believe Creston is part of the Rochelle school district. Hopefully some of this info helps
