Default Galena, IL

Hello All!

I have read many of your threads about Galena and loved the pictures. Right now my husband and I live in CA(midwest natives-MN and IL) and it is so very expensive and busy. We are looking for a quiet place to live with low crime. Galena is the half way point between our families and looks so inviting. The only things that I am concerned with is jobs and tourist. I am a teacher and my husband deals with computers. Do you think we will have problems finding jobs in the surrounding areas (0-40 mile radius)? Also what is day to day living like in Galena? Thanks in advance for all of your input!

Your 40-mile radius includes Dubuque, total metro area of about 100,000, so that should open up some options for both of you and that's probably where your husband in particular is likely to find work. I don't know what it takes to get your teacher's certification in Illinois, Iowa or Wisconsin, or if any of the three honor/reciprocate a California certification; that's something you'll need to look into and something that may determine which state you end up teaching in if you ultimately settle in the Galena area.
