I would hire a local company and not a national.
I would never ever put my furniture in a mixed "national" load unless it was last on and first off and you buy the maximum insurance. When these big movers tear up your stuff, you are offered 10 CENTS on the *used second hand furniture store price* dollar -unless you pay through the nose for the high dollar insurance. One thing you can do is get PODS. Pack it your self - no time limit. They will pick it up and move it to the destination. I believe they might also offer a loading and off lading service in some areas, but I am unsure. The cost of moving has risen 1000% since Katrina. .
