BELLEVILLE, Ill. -- Police in the southwestern Illinois city of Belleville say the videotaped attack on a 17-year-old student by two other riders on a school bus doesn't appear to have racial overtones after all.

Police Capt. Don Sax told media outlets Monday the beating of a white Belleville West High School student by two black schoolmates on the bus occupied mostly by black students appeared to be racially motivated.
But on Tuesday, Sax said the attack appears to have been about where the victim wanted to sit on the bus, with no racial underpinnings.

Wrong. This sort of thing is happening all over the country. Check out the crime stats. Black on White crime is horriifc -but ...it's....never...reported on.

It's is NOT old news. and why are you trying so hard to dismiss this mosntrous attack?

linicx: This happened at 8 am on the 15th of Sept. I don't know how this can be considered old news. You may be thinking of another attack on a schoolbus (for the same school district) last spring. That one was two black students who also attacked a white student. If you watch the video up to around 1:26 (maybe just past that time), you see one of those laughing flashing a gang sign with his hands.

Did anyone read the story or did you just look at the pictures? Do you know anything about the area? The attack was unprovoked. There should never be a brawl on a bus over a seat, or over the bus drivers explicit order to sit down.

The whole story will eventually come out, but it may take some time.

certainly not a brawl,
it is neither a mere incident nor merely unfortunate.
it was unprovoked and it was assault and battery.
the fact that he was white and the only one on the bus assaulted, is hardly coincidental.
the denial of the police of racial motives is laughable.
i regret it is not the end of the story the story goes on and on every day in K12.
gooning is a new pasttime.
but of course surely not racially motivated.

This is an Illinois school problem and we have posters from CA, CT, MN and PA voicing an opinion. The only racist thing I could find in the article was the back pack that started the brawl. I am waiting for the whole story to unfold before I form an opinion as to whether or not it was racially motivated. .
