Default Relocating to Illinois suburbs of St. Louis

I am planning on relocating to the St. Louis area probably in Illinois and was interested in some information about some good schools in the area. I will be working in downtown St. Louis and would like to not get too far out (prefer under an hour commute). What are some good areas for families and kids?

I'd do some research in the MO forum(s) as I am pretty sure that the cost of living and general school value is better in the show me state. If that works for your commute / work situation it may be better to check out...

I think you might like Collinsville. I have not heard any negatives about the area or the school. Many residents who live in Collinsville also work in St. Louis. You might find a carpool.

Our son goes to college in st. louis and driving down, it looks like collinsville would be a good choice if you wanted an Illinois suburb.

Since we get questions like these all the time....do searches on this forum for some of these fairly close cities (not inclusive by the way)...you should find similar requests whch contain recommendations and info on the cities/villages/towns:

Belleville
Fairview Heights
Collinsville
O'Fallon
Edwardsville
Granite City
Maryville
Swansea
Shiloh
Cahokia
Glen Carbon
Waterloo

And on the Missouri side (there are lots and lots more on this side of the river, but you must determine time to travel from the towns and through the city (especially in winter) and heavy traffic:
Lemay, MO
Oakville, MO
Affton, MO
Maplewood, MO
Sappington, MO
Festus, MO
Mehlville, MO

Good luck

I live in Belleville and many here make that commute, but I would avoid that like the plague. If you have to cross the Poplar St. bridge, it can be (and has been) tedious. If you like driving and don't mind slow moving traffic, then you should be good to go. Illinois taxes are pretty high and the taxes in St. Clair & Madison county are especially burdensome - compared to what you would have to pay in Missouri. If I had to work in STL, I would live in Missouri. Schools are pretty much the same (between the two states).

Another vote for Edwardsville. Awesome place but you pay for it via property taxes.

If you are an open minded person you don't want to live in this part of Illinois.

It is the most racist, backwards thinking, being in denial place in the United States.

Southern Illinois as a whole (and yes this includes South Western Illinois) is just a throw back to the 1960's.

I am ashamed to even admit and say to people that I grew up here.
